Please, please, please remember to use parking brakes in conjunction with your car being in park (or in gear for those who drive standard). I received this email from the property managers of the office building I work in.

And wear out the return springs? Meh, I’ll take my chances with the parking brake (except on a hill).

Eh I probably should leave it in gear when I park but I hate those times I forget I did it and dump my clutch after I start and yeah..

99% of Pennsylvania drivers don’t use the parking brake — FACT.

The only time I don’t use my parking brake is after I wash my Solstice. Somehow the parking brake would stick if I applied it when wet.
But in that case the car is backed in against my spot’s wall, and in reverse. My spot is quite flat so it doesn’t move.

A few years ago when I go my new phone, Nexus 4S, Best Buy had just closed and I went to get beer. I parked at the grocery store (one way lanes with diagonal spaces) and when I came out my car was gone. There was a few cars on the lot, I looked around and it rolled out of the spot backwards, did a half circle, and was pretty much backed into a spot further Dow the lot. I got lucky it didn’t roll into anything.

Accidentally did that once and killed the clutch and snapped a half shaft in two. I leave it in neutral all the time now.
